Pimlico Race Course raised the curtain over the weekend on what will be a nine-day “boutique” race schedule for September.
There was live thoroughbred racing at Pimlico today on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 10. Races, and Maryland sports betting opportunities, also are scheduled for the weekends of Sept. 15-17, and Sept. 22-24. Post time is 12:25 p.m.
The Pimlico fall meet includes nine stakes worth $925,000 in purses. The first of those were on Sunday, with three featured races. In the $100,000 Polynesian Stakes, Double Crown took to the Pimlico dirt track and captured a 4½-length win. It was the 19th running of the 1 1/16-mile Polynesian for 3-year-olds. Double Crown paid $15.80.
That was the last of three stakes races on the on the Sunday card. In the others, Whiskey and Rye was the winner by four lengths (paid $20.80) in the $100,000 Sensible Lady. And Swill captured the $75,000 Challedon Stakes paying $4.40. Swill was in a stretch battle with Al Loves Josie but won by 1½ lengths.
G3 Race Happening Sept. 16
A feature of the fall meet will be on Sept. 16 when Pimlico will be the setting for the 17th running of the $200,000 Baltimore-Washington International Turf Cup (G3) for 3-year-olds-and-up going one mile.
The Baltimore-Washington International Turf Cup has been run at Pimlico for the last three years. Before that, it was at Laurel Park from 2015-19. And before its stay at Laurel, the race was run at Colonial Downs in Virginia, until that track closed.
Once the Pimlico boutique meet ends on Sept. 24, live thoroughbred racing in Maryland moves to Laurel Park; that slate begins Sept. 29 and runs through December. The days for the Laurel fall meet are Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays in October and November, and Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays in December.
Post times are 12:25 p.m., with these exceptions: Saturday, Oct. 14, Maryland Million Day (first post of 11:30 a.m.), and Thursday, Nov. 23, (first post of 11:25 a.m.), which is Thanksgiving Day.
In addition to these pari-mutuel horse racing wagering opportunities, the state also has Maryland sportsbooks apps available for use from anywhere within state lines.
