A Royal Perennial Is No. 1

Stealing the crown, or should we say tiara, is the princess costume, which checks in as 2024’s most popular Maryland Halloween costume.

While “princess” is open to endless interpretation, there’s no doubt that the House of Mouse boasts the deepest roster of fictional princesses. From Ariel to Elsa, Disney princesses have been dominating pop culture since 1937, when Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs hit the big screen.

The next Disney princess coming to theatres will be Moana. She’ll return later this year in “Moana 2,” scheduled to be released Nov. 27.

Superheroes, Beetlejuice And More Round Out Top 10

No. 2 on our list has already made his theatrical comeback. In September, Michael Keaton returned to cinemas to reprise the role of Beetlejuice one more time in “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.”

Coming in at three and four on our list of Maryland’s most popular Halloween costumes are the witch and ghost costumes. Expect to see plenty of both as these two Halloween staples hoax and haunt their way through Maryland on Halloween night.

The Merc with the Mouth rounds out our top five. A long-time cult comic book character, Deadpool has been synonymous with actor Ryan Reynolds since the first Deadpool movie in 2016. Given the recent success of “Deadpool & Wolverine,” the third film in the series, red and black spandex is sure to be a hot Halloween look this Oct. 31.

At No. 7, we’re projecting that the characters from the Descendants franchise will also have a huge presence this Halloween. The first Descendants film aired as a made-for-TV movie on the Disney Channel in 2015 and follows the children of four iconic Disney villains. Since its debut, there have been many additional movies and spin-off series. Beloved by the age bracket that that does the most trick or treating, it makes sense that Descendants is a popular Halloween costume choice.

Three more comic book figures are also anticipated to inspire plenty of 2024 Halloween costumes. Batman is eighth on the list and his arch-nemesis, Joker, is tied for ninth with Spider-Man.
