Lamar Jackson’s NFL Career In Home Openers: What Can We Expect Against Raiders?

Fact Checked by Jim Tomlin

Only 11 NFL quarterbacks have ever won multiple league MVP awards. Baltimore Ravens gunslinger Lamar Jackson joined that elite club in the 2023-24 season after amassing more than 4,300 yards and 29 touchdowns in 2023-24.

Now, the 27-year-old returns to the Charm City with a fresh set of outsized expectations. Oddsmakers from DraftKings Maryland Sportsbook have given Baltimore the third best Super Bowl odds, at +1000, behind the Kansas City Chiefs (+500) and San Francisco 49ers (+600).

Jackson and the Ravens head to Arrowhead Stadium to play the Chiefs in the NFL’s Thursday Night opener on Sept. 5, with Baltimore listed as a three-point underdog at DraftKings. From there, Baltimore hosts its home opener against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sept. 15, with the Ravens a 7.5-point favorite.

Using ProFootballReference.com, we looked at how Jackson has performed during his career in home openers. Customers at Maryland sportsbooks will want to know: How should we expect the star QB to play in Week 2 against the Raiders?

How Has Lamar Jackson Performed in NFL Home Openers?

In five home openers, Jackson has posted a 4-1 mark. The six-year veteran (he didn’t start the home opener in his rookie season) averages more than 340 offensive yards and 2.4 touchdowns per game in those contests, with an average QBR of 111.6.

Looking through Jackson’s home opener archive, you’d have to go back to 2022 to find his lone loss in a home opener. That defeat was at the hands of the Dolphins in Week 2, with Miami handing Baltimore a 42-38 loss.

Even in defeat, Jackson shined against the Dolphins. He had 318 yards passing and 119 rushing, showcasing the type of dual threat talent that has made him a household name in the NFL after Jackson won a Heisman Trophy at Louisville.
