The 2024 MLB season is in the rear-view mirror and free agency is upon us. For Orioles fans and Maryland sports betting customers, itā€™s worth wondering what will happen with Baltimoreā€™s All-Star outfielder, Anthony Santander. He is a free agent for the first time this offseason.

Santander is coming off a career year in the Charm City. In 2024, he had an OPS+ of 134 and his second-highest Wins Above Replacement total (2.9, according to baseball-reference.com data). That WAR was only 0.1 lower than in 2023, when he hit .257 with an OPS+ of 121, plus 28 home runs and 95 RBIs. This season, Santander had 44 HRs and 102 RBIs, both career highs, in 155 games as the Orioles made the playoffs for a second straight season.

With free agency underway in MLB, BetMaryland.com ā€“ where the top Maryland sportsbook promos are found ā€“ developed odds projecting Santanderā€™s next landing spot.

Unsurprisingly, the Orioles made a qualifying offer to Santander, but he declined it and will instead be entering the free agency market.

Where Will Anthony Santander Play Next?

Right now, our top spot for the eighth-year outfielder out of Venezuela to land this offseason is the Oā€™s AL East rivals, the New York Yankees. They have already spent the third most of any team in the league on free agents this offseason, at $218 million.

The Yankees need to replace corner outfielder Juan Soto, who left the Yankees to go to Queens and play for the New York Mets on a record-setting, $765 million deal, the richest contract in American professional sports. The Mets are second in 2025 World Series futures betting at Caesars Maryland Sportsbook with +800 odds, behind only the defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers (+320). The Yankees are third on the operatorā€™s board at +900.

As for our Santander odds, we have the Yankees (+350) ahead of the Boston Red Sox (+400), Toronto Blue Jays (+450) and Dodgers (+750) as top contenders to land Santander out of MLB free agency this offseason. Boston, which acquired standout starting putcher Garrett Crochet on Dec. 13, has moved up to second in our odds.

There are also +900 odds that Santander either opts to return to the Orioles or sign with another team that's off our board entirely, meaning that Baltimore baseball fans shouldnā€™t chuck those No. 25 jerseys just yet.

Baltimore has +240 odds to win the AL East and +1500 odds to capture the World Series with BetMGM Maryland Sportsbook, as of Dec. 17 when we updated these Santander odds.

For now, what we do know is that Baltimore has handed out $58 million in free agent contracts this offseason, landing left fielder Tyler Oā€™Neill of the Red Sox and former Yankees and Milwaukee Brewers catcher Gary Sanchez so far this offseason. That shows that the club is willing to spend some money to add talent to the teamā€™s 26-man roster in the first offseason under new team owner David Rubenstein.
