The Beatles broke up more than 50 years ago, but people around the world continue to love their music. Maryland is no exception.
BetMaryland.com, where the best Maryland sportsbook promos can be found, used Google Trends to determine the most searched songs by The Beatles in Maryland. The search was conducted from June 11, 2023, to June 11, 2024. We used this method to determine the favorite Beatles songs in Maryland to celebrate the annual Global Beatles Day, which is June 25.
Rank | Songs | Release Year |
1 | “Here Comes The Sun” | 1969 |
2 | “Twist and Shout” | 1963 |
3 | “Let It Be” | 1970 |
John Lennon and Paul McCartney were the primary songwriters in The Beatles, but the band’s No. 1 song for searches in Maryland was a George Harrison composition.
The gentle “Here Comes The Sun” off of the “Abbey Road” album takes top spot on our list. It wasn’t released as a single in the United States but has garnered steady airplay through the decades, and a cover version by Richie Havens hit No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in 1971.
The No. 2 song on our list was a cover from 1963. What might Maryland sportsbooks odds have been against the top two favorite Beatles songs on this list not being Lennon-McCartney compositions?
Instead, the honor goes to “Twist And Shout.” This stomper was written by Bert Berns and Phil Medley and a version recorded by the Isley Brothers was a big hit in 1962. The Beatles version peaked at No. 2 in America and stayed there for four weeks – kept out of the top spot by another of their songs, “Can’t Buy Me Love.” The impact of “Twist And Shout” seems to be unending; it was featured in two 1986 films, “Back To School” and “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” and that led to a revival which saw the Beatles version return to the singles chart that year.
The third most-searched Beatles song was “Let It Be” from the 1970 album of the same name. The band was already splintering by that point but that didn’t stop “Let It Be” from becoming their 19th No. 1 single in the United States. The follow-up single, “The Long And Winding Road,” also topped the charts. To this day, their 20 No. 1 hits are the most in the history of the U.S. Billboard singles chart.
