If you are wondering what Maryland’s favorite Christmas movies are, we have that covered too.

This year, the answer to “What is Maryland’s favorite Christmas song” would be Brenda Lee’s midcentury classic “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree,” which notched a search interest score of 13 points.

Lee’s recording beat the two-headed holiday music monster of Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” and Eartha Kitt’s “Santa Baby.” Those two had 11 points each in search interest the Old Line State, where legal Maryland sportsbooks operate.

Variety of Styles for Favorite Christmas Music

While Lee’s 1958 ditty joined Carey’s 1994 modern Christmas classic and “Santa Baby” as the top songs of the holiday season this year, don’t forget Bobby Helms’ “Jingle Bell Rock.” That one placed fourth overall with a search interest score of nine points. Finally, “Silent Night” ranked fifth in Maryland with a score of eight points. That carol dates to the 19th century.

None of the final four could hold a candle, at least in searches, to the Christmas classic that Lee sang, and Johnny Marks wrote. The 2-minute jingle worked its way into the hearts and minds of Maryland residents of all ages this holiday season.

That’s because the 65-year-old rock standard beat out a handful of Christmas classics this year in the state, with “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” earning the honor of being Maryland’s top holiday song. And for three non-consecutive weeks in late 2023 and early 2024, the song topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart, making Lee the oldest artist ever to have a No. 1 pop single. She turned 80 on Dec. 11 this year.

To make the season even more festive in Maryland, the Baltimore Ravens are facing the Houston Texans on Dec. 25 for a rare Wednesday NFL game. See our guide to 2024 NFL Christmas Day games for more details.
